HISHIDAI’s main processing plant is located among the tea gardens in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan’s top-rated green tea production zone. Every year, HISHIDAI processes about 1,800 tons of green tea on a crude tea basis. The 48,000-square-foot manufacturing plant has capacity to finish 400Kg sencha and hoji-cha daily is one of the few facilities in the industry certified under both ISO 9001-2000 and the Organic JAS (*1 =Japan Agricultural Standard). Whether you order our green tea in bulk or in nitrogen-filled foil packages, you can expect a green tea of exceptional freshness, high quality and great value.
Our Charcoal Stove and Famous Slow-Roasted Hoji-Cha
HISHIDAI’s specialty, charcoal-roasted hoji-cha, is the work of a seasoned artisan who slowly roasts the leaves by hand. Charcoal creates temperatures above 1,000°C, much hotter than the gas-fueled roasting stove used by other tea processors. Further, far-infrared radiation from charcoal penetrates deep into tea leaves, making our hoji-cha more aromatic and tasty.
